What Lake Thunderbird Offers!

Clubhouse

The Lake Thunderbird Association clubhouse is for the private use of LTA members for special occasions or Association business and programs. Many interesting activities are held at the clubhouse almost daily and you can find most of these listed in the Events section. The clubhouse has two floors with a large open area on the first floor sporting a stage at the front and a large fireplace and dance floor at the rear. Windows give a great view of the lake. The lower floor consists of a lounge area with library and kitchen, restrooms and the main Association office. The clubhouse is surrounded by other amenities such as tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts, frisbee golf, swimming pool, boat slips and picnic facilities with a large playground boasting lots of equipment for children.

Parks and Nature Trails

Several parks and nature trails are located around the lake to provide ample opportunity for picnicing or a nature walk where you are likely to see deer, wild turkey and an occasional bald eagle in the winter months. Some of these areas provide bathroom facilities and pavillions as well as swings and other playground equipment for children. The area at the dam provides good fishing for those unable to go out on the lake in a boat and fishing along the rocky water front is excellent!

Beach, Snack Shack, Pavilions

During the summer months between Memorial and Labor Day weekends, the beach is used by many to cool off from the hot Illinois summers! Lifegaurds, The Snack Shack and plenty of nearby picnicing with shelters provides an extremely hospitable environment for lake members and their guests to use for relaxing, swimming and grilling while enjoying the fresh country air and sunshine.

Camping

The Lake Thunderbird campground, available to members and their guests, is situated in a picturesque valley surrounded by hills and woods giving it a country flair with lots of privacy. The campground has a large number of full facility campsites as well as providing for primitive camping. A bath house with modern shower and restrooms complete the required necessities for enjoying the great out of doors. This is a very popular area of the lake for many members during the warmer seasons.

Boating and Fishing

Anytime between ice out in the Spring and freeze up in the Fall you will see fishing boats on Lake Thunderbird in pursuit of the ample large and small mouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, catfish, channel cat, muskie and other species. As the weather warms, fishing becomes relegated to the "quiet hours" as skiing, tubing and deck boat or pontoon boat partying take over during the middle of the day! The boat launch on the south shore of the lake gets to be a "busy" place during the summer weekends.
